Thanksgiving is now just a few short weeks away (along with all the Black Friday deals that come with it) and that means we're due an influx of new movies to watch over the holidays. We're partial to all genres, but there's no doubt that a good rom-com is the perfect pairing with a family weekend.
HBO is stepping up to the plate in a big way this year, with the newly unveiled Sweethearts, a rom-com in the coming-of-age medium, which looks super cute and very funny in its first full trailer. The movie will hit Max on 28 November.
Sweethearts stars Kiernan Shipka and Nico Hiraga as two best friends who've gone to college together, each sticking with a long-distance relationship from back home out of love and loyalty. It's pretty clear that they're both finding it pretty tough to keep that commitment up, though.
With college life offering parties and endless opportunities for fun, they're clearly going to grow even closer together as they work out whether staying in dying relationships is the right thing for them. Expect parties, big mistakes and, almost certainly, an extremely romantic resolution.
Shipka in particular seems to have a good thing going on when it comes to starring in fun movies on streaming platforms. She was the lead in last year's Totally Killer on Amazon Prime Video, which became a bit of a word-of-mouth hit for its really fun and fresh approach to both the horror and time travel genres.
HBO's forever-renamed Max isn't necessarily the biggest platform, but it's in the running as the best streaming service out there if you care about quality - as recent output has underlined. If you love sci-fi, it's got Dune: Prophecy to check out, while The Penguin has been blowing people away with episode after episode of top-quality TV.
All of that content being so impressive bodes really well for Sweethearts, which looks like the best kind of easygoing movie for the holidays. Be sure to add it to your watchlist ahead of that release day on 28 November!
