BON CHARGE RED LIGHT FACE MASK REVIEW: PRICE AND AVAILABILITY

The Bon Charge Red Light Face Mask is now available to buy now directly from Bon Change UK / Bon Charge US / Bon Charge Australia for a recommended retail price of £275 / $349 / AUS$499.

BON CHARGE RED LIGHT FACE MASK REVIEW: UNBOXING AND DESIGN

Inside the box, I found the LED mask itself, complete with three fastening straps, two protective eye cups, a controller with digital display, a luxury storage pouch and a USB to Barrel Jack charging cable. To access the instruction manual, you simply scan the QR code inside the lid of the box.

Everything from the mask and accessories to the coordinating packaging is black with accents of red, giving off a sleek, modern, high-tech vibe that will appeal to both sexes. But trust me when I say this mask has the substance to match the style.

It boasts a whopping 240 LED bulbs emitting red and near-infrared wavelengths, which is almost double of any red light mask I’ve tested before, including the CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Face Mask: Series 1 and the HigherDOSE Red Light Face Mask, which both have 132 bulbs each.

The Bon Charge Red Light Face Mask provides the most optimal wavelengths of red light (630nm) to accelerate collagen production, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, calm redness and create a more even skin tone, along with infrared light at 850nm to work more deeply in the skin’s hypodermis to boost blood circulation and bring oxygen and nutrients to the cells.

Suitable for all skin types and made from a flexible medical grade silicone, this mask has five slots – two either side and one at the top – to accommodate the three-part head strap made from a soft foam material with Velcro fastenings.

After attaching the straps and inserting the eye cups, I had to give the instruction manual a quick read to get to grips with the controller and its six buttons, which is many more than the usual on/off button I’m accustomed to. However, you won’t need to look them up again once you understand the purpose of each button and the features they relate to.

BON CHARGE RED LIGHT FACE MASK REVIEW: FEATURES

First off, let’s talk battery. One full charge takes three to four hours which is longer than usual, but you get approximately two hours of power, which equates to 12 10-minute treatments: around double what I’ve come to expect from an LED mask.

The longer battery life probably accounts for the fact that one treatment with the Bon Charge LED mask is allowed to last up to an incredible 30 minutes at a time, which is again way longer than other masks I’ve tested, the longest previously being the HigherDOSE Red Light Face Mask which allows 20-minute treatments.

In fact, while most masks I’ve tried before say you should use the mask three to five times a week for a maximum of 10 minutes, Bon Charge suggests you should use their mask for a minimum of three times a week to see noticeable results, while daily use is recommended for a minimum of 10 minutes to achieve optimal results based on individual needs.

Once you power up the mask via the on/off button on the controller with digital screen - which also displays the battery life so you know when it needs a charge (thank you!) - you can use the other five buttons to customise your treatment. The screen automatically displays a 10-minute treatment, but you can increase or decrease the treatment length by five-minute increments using the ‘T+’ and ‘T-’ buttons.

In a welcome addition, the controller lets you choose between treatments that emit red light on its own, near-infrared light on its own, or both together. This is handy because infrared light – which is responsible for the heat in infrared saunas and PEMF mats – can cause your face to become a little sweaty when used in a face mask.

Pressing the ‘M’ button on the controller will turn the red light on and off (an ‘R’ will show on the screen when it’s on and the mask’s bulbs will glow red) while pressing the ‘NIR’ button will turn the near-infrared light on or off. It’s important to note that near-infrared light is invisible to the eye so you’ll have to rely on the screen showing ‘NIR’ to know it’s working. Of course, for the best results, Bon Charge recommends that both are turned on.

The final variable involves the ‘E’ button, which adjusts the irradiance through three power intensities: low, medium and high.

BON CHARGE RED LIGHT FACE MASK REVIEW: PERFORMANCE

The Bon Charge Red Light Face Mask promises visible results after two weeks of consistent use, but I have to say I saw a noticeable improvement to my skin from the first treatment.

After two weeks of daily use, my usually dull-looking skin appeared to glow from within, fine lines around my eye and mouth area were plumped and softened, my skin texture became tighter and firmer, and my pores appeared smaller, too. In fact, after a month’s use, I’m pretty sure it has also helped to even out my skin tone which has several areas of blotchiness, scarring from acne, and hyperpigmentation.

I’ve used plenty of red light LED masks before, but I do think the number of bulbs on the Bon Charge Red Light Face Mask vastly helps to improve results, coupled with the fact that you can safely use it every day for up to 30 minutes.

Being a seasoned LED face mask user, I often used this mask for 20 minutes, working up to 30 minutes after a few weeks of use. While beginners should start with 10-minute sessions to begin with, it’s nice to know you have scope to improve the efficacy of treatments over time depending on the length of your sessions and the added variable of three power intensity options.

Being able to use a mask daily makes a real difference to the results you get, but the truth is you need an LED mask to be truly wearable for it to fit into your daily life. And that’s where the Bon Charge Red Light Face Mask surpasses all others I have tried.

Designed with comfort and convenience in mind, the eye cups on this mask are the best I’ve ever experienced, cutting almost 100% of the red light flare that usually leaks into my vision with other masks. This means I can wear this mask while reading a book, working at my laptop, or watching TV, so using it daily becomes more achievable.

Equally, the fact you can turn off the near-infrared light is great for those times when you want to use the mask after a morning shower but don’t want to get a sweaty face when you’ve already cleansed.

Overall, this is one of the comfiest masks I’ve tried, thanks to the practically perfect placement of the eye and mouth holes and the padded three-part head strap that helps the mask stay in place and prevents light leakage at the edges.

BON CHARGE RED LIGHT FACE MASK REVIEW: VERDICT

The Bon Charge Red Light Face Mask is an excellent choice for multitaskers looking for a device they can comfortably wear while working and relaxing. The flexible eye cups block almost all red light from your vision so you can see clearly, while the brilliant fit and padded three-part strap ensures the mask stays firmly in place to remove distractions.

With 240 bulbs emitting red and near-infrared wavelengths, you get way more bang for your buck compared to older LED mask designs of a similar price. Even better, this mask can be worn daily for up to 30 minutes for faster results.
