Why you can trust T3

Who needs expensive facials from swanky spas when you can get healthier, clearer, firmer skin at home using the best LED masks and microcurrent devices? Not me! Having tested some of the best skincare gadgets for T3 in recent years, the benefits are clear for me to see every time I look in the mirror.
Recently, I opted for a device from beauty tool experts PMD Beauty who offer a wide range of facial cleansing brushes to suit different budgets and skincare needs, from the budget-friendly PMD Clean to the PMD Clean Acne with added blue light therapy to tackle blemishes.
As a woman in her 40s with concerns about ageing, I chose the 2-in-1 PMD Clean Redvolution cleansing brush, designed to revitalise skin with sonic cleansing powers and red light LED therapy. So, how did I get on with it after four weeks of testing? Keep reading for my full review.
PMD CLEAN REDVOLUTION REVIEW: PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
The PMD Clean Redvolution is available to buy in the UK for a recommended retail price of £209 from PMD Beauty UK and Harrods.
You can also purchase it from PMD Beauty US / PMD Beauty Australia for a recommended retail price of $229 / AUS$399.
PMD CLEAN REDVOLUTION REVIEW: DESIGN AND FEATURES
Combining the cleansing power of the PMD Clean with the rejuvenating benefits of red light therapy, the PMD Clean Redvolution arrives in a sturdy cardboard box with a hard plastic storage case, a USB charging cable, and protective eye goggles for use during LED treatments.
To get going, you’ll need to charge it for two to three hours, with one full charge lasting for 150-180 minutes. It’s worth noting that the charging hole at the base of the handle is purposefully tight to ensure the device remains waterproof, so you’ll need a stronger push than usual to insert the long, thin end of the charging cord.
Measuring 17.52cm long, this stylish device made from ultra-hygienic silicone is waterproof, odour-resistant and anti-bacterial, with a carefully crafted ergonomic handle attached to a two-sided circular head.
On one side of the head, you’ll find soft, silicone, bristles that use SonicGlow Technology to gently yet deeply break down dirt and oil within the pores using up to 7,000 vibrations per minute.
With two modes on offer to cleanse and tone the skin, simply press the power button on the handle once to activate the Gentle Vibration mode or twice for Intense Vibration (a third press turns the vibration off).
Flip the device over and you’ll find 19 powerful medical grade LEDs emitting red light therapy to promote collagen production, which is a key factor for maintaining skin elasticity and firmness. Closely packed together, the LEDs are surrounded by an intelligent touch sensor that ensures they only light up when the ring contacts skin.
Weighing a lightweight 135g, this FDA-cleared device is safe to use on all skin types, including sensitive skins, thanks to the antibacterial, hypoallergenic bristles and gentle red light therapy. PMD Beauty also offer a 2-year device warranty, and a 30 day return policy.
PMD CLEAN REDVOLUTION REVIEW: PERFORMANCE
Developed in collaboration with renowned dermatologist Dr. Taylor, the PMD Clean Redvolution offers two clinically proven treatments in one device, with benefits said to include:
- Deeply cleansed skin with boosted circulation, improved skin health and tighter pores for smoother skin texture
- Diminished dark circles, blemishes, dark spots, redness and inflammation for a more even skin tone
- Increased collagen production to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging while promoting a radiant glow
- Firmer, more lifted and sculpted skin for enhanced facial contours and improved overall tone
During testing, PMD claims users experienced a 91% diminishment in blackheads and a 77% decrease in blemishes with regular use, along with an 88% reduction in the appearance of pores. Moreover, regular use is said to boost skincare absorption by up to 30%, while 90% reported improved skin tone from red light LED therapy. Sounds fantastic. But how would my ageing, acne-prone skin fare over four weeks?
Well, the first thing I noticed was a dramatic difference in the oil production levels around my T-zone area. My forehead, nose and chin can all start to look and feel greasy within a few hours of cleansing. But, from the very first use, I noticed my face remained matt to the touch for a full day after cleansing in the morning and wasn’t greasy when I woke up after cleansing with the Redvolution before bedtime.
As a result, I think, I experienced hardly any breakouts after the first week of use. Don’t get me wrong, I had a few eruptions on and around my nose during the first seven days of use, but I’m convinced that was down to the sonic vibrations shifting old dirt and debris from my pores. Ultimately, it was a healing process, and one I was more than happy to go through for clearer, softer skin thereafter.
Right off the bat, I loved the device’s ergonomic handle. It fits so comfortably in the hand and makes angling the silicone bristles around the contours of the face super easy. The handle also means you’re less likely to feel the vibrations in your fingers – compared to the handleless facial cleansing brushes I used before – and you’re less likely to lose grip of the device when cleansers make things slippery.
The exfoliating silicone bristles feel gentle on the skin in both vibration modes, and I’ve never felt discomfort or irritation after use. Instead, my skin feels fresher, smoother, and clearer with tighter pores. After use, it also looks glowing, as though the massaging effect has really got my blood pumping.
As a regular user of the best LED face masks, I’m accustomed to wearing a mask to treat my entire face in one session, whereas the PMD Clean Redvolution requires you to direct the red light therapy onto a small area of the face and hold it in place for a maximum of three minutes before moving it to another area of treatment.
Call me lazy, but this seemed like harder work. However, LED masks can be very expensive, so if you don’t already have one, investing in the Redvolution device could be an effective, space-saving alternative that also doubles as an excellent facial cleansing brush.
Another pro is that hardly any of the red light escapes from the 19 LEDs once they’re pressed to the skin, which is important as you want the LED wavelengths to effectively penetrate the skin to work to their full potential.
To activate the red light, you must press the power button on the same side as the LEDs. Once pressed against the skin, a quick vibration signals the start of the recommended three-minute treatment for the best results, while three quick vibrations signal the end of the treatment, so you don’t have to watch the clock.
This process can be repeated on different areas of the face and body as needed, although you are advised not to exceed 18 minutes of continuous use. As with all LED devices, consistent use is needed to see effective results, but this device is safe enough to use daily, which is a bonus.
Once I committed to swapping my LED face mask for the PMD Clean Redvolution, I noticed the fine lines around my eyes, mouth and forehead remained plumped and minimised. And, on a side note, this lightweight, compact, multitasking tool is ideal for travel, especially as it comes with its own protection case. Heck, you could even carry it around in your handbag or gym bag if you wanted to, making it great for LED touch ups on the go.
PMD CLEAN REDVOLUTION REVIEW: VERDICT
The PMD Clean Redvolution is a multitasking 2-in-1 facial cleansing brush combining SonicGlow Technology with red light therapy for multiple skincare benefits. Ultra-hygienic, antibacterial bristles made from soft silicone deeply cleanse and boost circulation using up to 7,000 vibrations a minute while 19 medical grade LEDs help to reduce fine lines and boost radiance.
Lightweight, compact and waterproof, it’s a versatile and effective device for anyone seeking clearer, firmer, younger-looking skin, and a great choice for those who don’t already own a LED face mask. The wireless design with ergonomic handle also makes this device incredibly easy, comfortable and pleasurable to use.
