Why you can trust T3
Choosing the best mattress today can be more difficult than it seems, mainly because of the overwhelming range of options available. Whilst selecting the right size is straightforward, deciding on firmness, materials and spring count can feel like a challenge.
That said, one thing I always prioritise when choosing a mattress is the quality of the materials used, and I recently discovered a range that excels in this area. Last year, Bensons for Beds launched its eco-conscious Naturals by Slumberland collection, which includes three models crafted from recycled, natural and organic materials. I knew I had to try one!
I chose the Slumberland Naturals Plant-Based Luxe Mattress and spent eight weeks testing it. Keep reading to find out my thoughts on its performance and whether the use of premium materials truly makes a difference.
Bensons for Beds Slumberland Naturals Plant-Based Luxe Mattress review: price and availability
The Slumberland Naturals Plant-Based Luxe Mattress is actually priced quite reasonably for a premium mattress, coming in at £799.99 (around $950) for a double. It can be purchased from Bensons or Beds online or in-store.
There are five sizes to choose from – ranging from single to super king – as well as a medium, firm and extra firm rating. I've been reviewing the firm option, and have found it to be a pleasant middle ground between the three.
It should be noted that there's an exciting 25% off at Bensons for Beds at the moment, meaning the mattress is even cheaper. Take a look below:

Bensons for Beds Slumberland Naturals Plant-Based Luxe Mattress review: unboxing and delivery
The Bensons for Beds delivery process was seamless, with the mattress arriving around two weeks after placing the order. The company provided a specific delivery date along with a precise two-hour time slot, making the process much more convenient.
The mattress arrived in a large van and was carried upstairs by the delivery team. It came fully encased in plastic wrapping and was delivered exactly as expected. As part of Bensons for Beds' recycling service, they also took away my old mattress and disposed of the new mattress’s packaging, which was a great touch.
This is my second time reviewing a Bensons mattress, and both experiences have been great so far.
Bensons for Beds Slumberland Naturals Plant-Based Luxe Mattress review: design and features
The Slumberland Naturals Plant-Based Luxe Mattress is crafted from plant-based fabrics and fillings. As a result, it features a chemical-free fabric treatment, promoting a healthier sleep environment – something you may not consciously notice, but it's reassuring to know it’s there.
Designed for plush, pressure-relieving comfort, the mattress includes a deep comfort layer and a soft-touch quilted top, adding an extra touch of luxury that you can almost feel through your sheets. Like many of the best mattresses, it’s hypoallergenic, making it ideal for those with allergies or sensitivities.
Now, onto the good stuff. The mattress incorporates 800 mini and 1,050 full-height pocket springs, which individually adapt to body movements for targeted support.
It also features dynamic reinforced edge support, designed to enhance durability and maximise the entire sleep surface – reducing the risk of roll-off (more on that later).
Another standout feature is Bensons for Beds' easy-care design, meaning there’s no need to flip the mattress, just rotate it regularly. There are some robust handles either side to help with the process.
Bensons for Beds Slumberland Naturals Plant-Based Luxe Mattress review: performance
After testing the Bensons for Beds Slumberland Naturals Plant-Based Luxe Mattress for eight weeks, I can confidently say it’s extremely comfortable to sleep on. In fact, it's one of the highest-quality mattresses I’ve come across in a while – so much so that I expected a much higher price tag given the variety of premium materials used.
I’m often skeptical when a mattress claims its springs adapt to body movement, but I genuinely experienced this with the Plant-Based Luxe. It did take some time to adjust, as it’s a firm mattress, and firmness tends to vary between brands. However, over time, I felt increasingly supported, and waking up feeling well-rested became the norm.
The Tencel stretch-knit cover is exceptionally soft, and I could feel its plushness through my sheets. That said, I did experience occasional overheating, which was surprising given that it’s winter. Whilst I could blame my human hot water bottle of a partner, I also noticed it when sleeping alone.
I was particularly eager to test Bensons’ reinforced edge support, but I didn’t notice a significant difference. Whilst I never felt like I was going to roll off, the claim that it maximizes the entire sleep surface felt slightly exaggerated. I also felt the edge sat a little lower than expected for a feature designed to enhance support.
As mentioned, I love a no-turn mattress, and this one certainly delivers. When it started to develop minor indentations – as all mattresses do – being able to rotate it instead of flipping was a game-changer. However, I will say that rotating it is a two-person job, and despite the weight adding to its premium feel, it does make handling a bit of a hassle.
Lastly, Bensons for Beds’ free eight-year guarantee is a fantastic touch. Many brands only offer five years, so having this extended warranty provides extra peace of mind – definitely something worth considering.
Bensons for Beds Slumberland Naturals Plant-Based Luxe Mattress review: verdict
The Bensons for Beds Slumberland Naturals Plant-Based Luxe Mattress delivers exceptional comfort and quality, exceeding expectations for its price. Its Tencel stretch-knit cover feels luxuriously soft, though there were occasional instances of overheating. Whilst the reinforced edge support was less noticeable than expected, the no-turn design makes maintenance hassle-free – though rotating it requires two people due to its weight. Overall, it’s an excellent choice for those seeking premium comfort, durability and sustainable materials.
Bensons for Beds Slumberland Naturals Plant-Based Luxe Mattress review: alternatives to consider
One alternative I'd recommend is the Emma Hybrid Premium, which offers firm support and comfort. Its hybrid design of foam and springs contours to the body without the deep sinking sensation that some hybrids have. Plus, it’s surprisingly affordable!
If you prefer to stick with the Bensons for Beds Slumberland range, the Slumberland Air 9.0 Memory Mattress is another excellent option. It shares the same quality and low-maintenance features as the Plant-Based Luxe but offers a memory foam comfort feel instead. Keep in mind that it’s taller, so you’ll need a deep fitted sheet.
