T3 Verdict

The Eureka J15 Pro Ultra packs plenty of punch and, having both wet and dry functionality, means it's well suited to hard surfaces and carpets too. It’s a chunky appliance though, with a base station that needs a reasonable amount of floor space. The upside to this is plenty of capacity in the storage tank area and lots of low maintenance appeal. It's up against several other premium rivals out there, some with better known brand names.

T3's Eureka J15 Pro Ultra review in a sentence: Expect impressive performance with the trade-off being that this robot vacuum takes up quite a lot of space.

I’m not sure just how big the robot vacuum cleaner market is but that isn’t stopping every brand you’ve heard of, plus plenty you haven’t, from getting on the bandwagon. While it’s still hard to beat impressive offerings from the likes of the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, the SwitchBot Mini K10+ and the Eufy Omni S1 Pro, there are less well known options that are worth a look.

Case in point is the Eureka J15 Pro Ultra, which got sent to my door direct from China and is a brand I’d had no dealings with before, although the brand name has been around in the US for a lot longer. It’s another robot vacuum that sits firmly at the jumbo-sized model end of the spectrum, which means it comes with a beefy specification, a sizeable footprint and a fairly high price tag as part of the deal. If you’re more keen on sticking with known brands, like Roborock and its Saros 10, or Shark with its Matrix Plus model then, it may not sound appealing.

However, I’ve been using the Eureka J15 Pro Ultra for a while now and it certainly ticks a lot of boxes, which is to be expected given its premium price tag. While the Eureka J15 Pro Ultra might be good, it’ll work best when used alongside a standard vacuum model I think. Excessive? Well, you can never have enough vacuums, right?! Here’s how I’ve been getting on with the Eureka J15 Pro Ultra.

Eureka J15 Pro Ultra review: Price and availability

For the American market, the Eureka J15 Pro Ultra Flagship Robot Vacuum is available from the manufacturers website for $999.99, although there do also seem to be frequent discount offers there too. It can also be found on Amazon in the US. Meanwhile, for the UK market, the Eureka J15 Pro Ultra Robot Vacuum and Mop with Self Emptying Base as described on Amazon is available from the online retailer for £1,108.91.

Eureka J15 Pro Ultra review: Is it any good?

The Eureka J15 Pro Ultra comes with everything needed to get started including the robot unit itself, a docking station plus a dust bag, roller brush, manual, base ramp for the docking part of the process, two mops, a side brush and a cleaning brush. It can be purchased in either Volcanic Black or Glacier White, depending on your preference. My test unit came with a multiplug power adapter, which meant it could be plugged into any kind of power adapter. Presumably this is because it was sent to me in the UK directly from China, but this may happen with models purchased in other geographical areas too.

One thing to remember is that this is a sizeable appliance, which needs some space, especially due to the big docking station. The robot vacuum dimensions are 35.5 cm x 35.4 cm x 11 cm, while the base station measures 39.5 cm x 45.8 cm x 46.8 cm and overall, the bundle weighs in at a hefty 14.88kg all in. It’s therefore worth measuring up the space you’re keen to locate the appliance as it does have a prominent footprint. The cable is a decent length though, which offers a little more flexibility when it comes to positioning.

In terms of specification, the Eureka J15 Pro Ultra is designed with performance in mind. There’s a battery capacity of 5200mAh, maximum suction of 16300Pa and the runtime is up to 240 minutes but that’s only if you’re in mopping only mode. The noise level is reasonable at 62dB during mopping mode too, while the capacity is generous, with 3 litres for the dust bag, 4 litres for the water tank and 3.4 litres for the dirty water container.

This model has some key features that are worth noting, with automatic clean water filling from the on-board tanks, automatic dust emptying into the docking station bag, automatic mop washing as well as automatic tray washing where the mops sit inside the docking station. Dirty water is also handled automatically and I’m keen on the automatic mop drying function too, which does help to alleviate any damp or mould from around the base of the unit where the mops sit. There’s also support for Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri.

Eureka J15 Pro Ultra review: Performance

I’ve been reasonably impressed with the performance of the Eureka J15 Pro Ultra, thanks to its built-in LiDAR, complimented by a very decent app that makes light work of the setup, configuration and everyday operation. Features and functions work as expected plus there’s the benefit of neat additional things, like the way the appliance can tell the difference between wet and dry material it encounters. Eureka reckons this is especially useful for preventing clumps accumulating in the dust box and I’d say it works well based on my first few cleaning sessions.

There are plenty of standard fare highlights too, with the anti-tangle brushes working well on carpet and rugs. I have to say that the suction is really good on this model, with plenty of oomph that makes it well suited to those carpets and rugs. I’m not normally a fan of using a robot vacuum on fibre-covered floors, preferring to stick to hard surfaces like wood, laminate or concrete. However, the Eureka J15 Pro Ultra seems very adept at taking on carpets.

Meanwhile, the mopping option works well enough, and this is enhanced with the drying feature of the docking station. I’m not a big fan of having soggy mops stuck in situ, but the dryer side of things does work as intended. What was also impressive was its ability to tackle stains, applying a decent amount of mop pressure to successfully remove even sticky stuff like jam from a wood floor in my kitchen, by way of an example.

Eureka also makes a point about the edge cleaning prowess of this unit, citing up to 99.95% edge coverage in the promotional blurb. The design does seem to help with that, mind, and overall, the Eureka J15 Pro Ultra impressed me with its knack of getting into those tighter corners.

Eureka J15 Pro Ultra review: Verdict

Anyone who needs a beefy robot vacuum cleaning solution should give the Eureka J15 Pro Ultra a look. It’s got plenty of puff when it comes to suction and there is an excellent array of features and functions overall. Given the price point, it would have been good if there were a couple of spare mops inside the box. However, the way these get cleaned effectively in the docking station should mean they last a decent amount of time before needing replacement.

Granted, the footprint of the Eureka J15 Pro Ultra might make it a little too much of an in-the-way feature in smaller houses and apartments, but, if you’ve got the space to give it a home, this model ticks all the right boxes.

Eureka J15 Pro Ultra review: Alternatives to consider

The Eureka J15 Pro Ultra is a bulky thing and, by comparison, the Ultenic T10 is an obvious place to start if something similarly large is required. I've also recently tested the Hoover HG4 Hydro Pro, which offers more of the same and also ticks all the boxes on the robot vacuum front. It is reasonable small too, especially when put up against this appliance.

Similarly impressive is the Shark Matrix Plus Robot Vacuum with its vacuum and mop functionality. Elsewhere, the Roborock Qrevo Master robot vacuum is good, but both of these models are full-size appliances. If size isn’t a problem then the iRobot Roomba Combo J9+ is a solid option and does a little bit of everything, as does the eufy Clean X8 Pro machine. Finally, have a look at the eufy X9 Pro as well as the keenly priced iRobot Roomba j7+.
