The Samsung S95D is a really interesting TV proposition which, thanks to its anti-reflective panel, can deliver image quality that'll suit a wide range of people – especially those in bright rooms where reflections would otherwise be a problem. Despite this, it's able to still deliver superb image quality.

As said in T3's review: "The Samsung S95D redefines the capabilities of an OLED TV. The upgraded Quantum Dot-powered panel produces exceptional pictures that are incredibly bright. The result is high dynamic range (HDR) that’s among the best we’ve ever seen." That, dear readers, is why the set won Best OLED TV in the T3 Awards 2024.

The S95D delivers OLED-like black levels from its QD-OLED panel, meaning deeper blacks and better-defined shadow detail, while an AI-enhanced processing engine makes the most of every last pixel in the 4K panel – squeezing out all detail. It's great for gamers, too, thanks to four HDMI 2.1 ports on the One Connect box (which sits separately from the TV, to make connections super-easy).

Best for gamers

LG has done it again with the LG G4, a stunning 4K OLED set that's hard to beat in terms of the gorgeousness of the picture that you get here. Various different types of LED panels have caught up to some extent in terms of contrast levels and colour performance, but there's still nothing like OLED for the rich black levels.

The LG G4 certainly isn't cheap, but we think you get a lot back for your money. The AI upscaler, for example, does a fine job of getting older content looking great in 4K, and the HDR performance is superb too. The picture is best in class for pure OLED, although the sound lacks somewhat.

The G4 is a really great choice if you're planning to use this 65-inch TV with your console as well: its four HDMI 2.1 ports all support 4K at 120Hz, and the key VRR and ALLM technologies are available too, so your games always look their best. Best sound

There's so much to love about Philips' OLED 909 model. As the title says, this is the best-sounding set that you're going to get straight out of the box – that's thanks to an integrated Bowers & Wilkins soundsystem – but the picture quality is also next-level and on par with other 65-inch OLED models in this best-of list.

There's another major feature that can't be overlooked: Ambilight, which is Philips' rear-mounted LED illumination system, spills a real-time extension of the screen onto surrounding walls, giving a whole new level of immersion. It makes for viewing that's easier on the eyes, not that the sheer quality of this OLED panel makes that any trouble.

As said in T3's OLED 909 review: "the second-generation MLA-type OLED panel is best-of-best; four-sided Ambilight is a unique feature that looks stunning; and Bowers & Wilkins' built-in soundsystem sounds spectacular and negates the need for a soundbar." There's little to deny the excellence of this set – although with limited availability, some black crush in the darkest of scenes, and poor access to UK catch-up services there are one or two minor considerations in an otherwise superb 65-inch TV.

Best affordable

A little more cash strapped, but still demanding a 65-inch TV as your next purchase? Many are in search of such a mythical unicorn. Except, no, TCL is here as the answer to your dreams – and its C805K is a very well-specified yet very affordable set at this size. There are even bigger models available in the line-up if you want to go super-massive, too!

As said in T3's TCL C805K review: "If you’re after a big screen with a big specification at an admirably unbig price, the TCL most definitely fits the bill. There are some undeniable issues, but they have to be balanced against the stuff this TV does well and the modest nature of its asking price."

So, sure, it's not perfect when it comes to viewing angle limitations, motion processing, or sound quality, but if you budget for one of the best soundbars and can accept that the best-of-best picture isn't on show here, you'll find this set a bargain. It's also incredibly bright, which makes it a great choice for bright rooms to negate bothersome reflections and such.

If you're not here for a 4K TV and want to future-proof with an ultra-resolution 8K TV then this Samsung is, in T3's opinion, the best 8K TV in the world right now. And at 65-inches it really shows off that mega resolution – although even larger models are also available if you want to really go to town.

As said in T3's QN900D review: "This TV is a remarkable technological statement, delivering outstanding performance thanks to a Mini-LED backlight with class-leading contrast and peerless AI-enhanced image processing." It's that Mini-LED panel that's the real star here, able to get even large-scale and resolute images output with immense brightness. The result is HDR performance that has to be seen to be believed.

There is always a lingering question over 8K, however, as little to nothing is made in the native resolution. That said, with impeccable upscaling systems on offer here, the kind of additional sharpness the QN900D can squeeze out of even the most rudimentary of content is quite incredible. Whether that's worth paying the extra for, however, only you'll know.

Best 65-inch TV: Is this the right size for you?
